알로리 괴르제와 앙투안 드푸르는 특유의 유머 감각으로 공연과 시각예술을 자유롭게 오가며 활동하는 프랑스 출신의 아티스트들이다. <제르미날>에서 그들은 무대를 무엇이든 만들어낼 수 있는 텅 빈 창조의 공간으로 본다. 이곳에서 이들이 만들고자 노력하는 것은 하나의 시스템, 더 정확히 말하면 하나의 세계이다.

네 명의 용감무쌍한 퍼포머는 무대 위에 인간 문명의 역사를 재건한다. 곡괭이, 마이크, 전자기타, 노래 등을 도구 삼아 과학, 기술, 철학, 음악, 언어처럼 사회의 뼈대를 이루는 모든 요소를 획기적으로 건설하고 다시 해체한다. 재건의 과정은 우리가 알고 있는 모든 것을 질문하고 시험하는 과정이기도 하다. 당연히 물리학의 법칙이나 사회적 소통의 기반도 의심의 대상이 된다.

세상에 존재하는 것을 모두 처음부터 새로이 만들 수 있다면? 그리고 당신에게 8 ×10미터 공간과 한 시간이 주어졌다면?
