24 Preludes, Op. 34: No. 22 in G Minor (Adagio)

“사라지는 것은 반드시 소멸로 끝나지 않고, 남는 것은 고정된 상태로만 머물지 않는다. 발화가 언어로 닫히기 전의 틈, 신호가 의미로 정리되기 전의 지연, 형상이 하나의 이름으로 굳기 전의 유예는 모두 발생과 잔존 사이의 불안정한 시간에 속한다. 이 시간 안에서 들림과 보임은 분리된 감각의 범주가 아니라, 서로의 조건을 바꾸며 지속되는 관계로 놓인다.

프란체스코 무게티와 이용진의 작업은 서로를 번역하지 않는다. 사운드는 조각을 설명하지 않고, 조각은 사운드를 이미지로 환원하지 않는다. 중요한 것은 ‘결합’이 아닌 ‘간격‘이며, 그 간격 안에서 각각의 물성은 더 분명해진다. 들리는 것은 완전히 해독되지 않고, 보이는 것은 끝내 고백하지 않는다. 그 사이에 남는 것은 하나의 의미가 아니라, 아직 닫히지 않은 상태다. 침묵은 그곳에서 가장 오래 머무는 음(note)이 된다.“

”What vanishes does not always end in absence, and what remains is never simply fixed in place. The pause before utterance becomes language, the delay before a signal gathers into meaning, and the suspension before form hardens into a single name all belong to an unstable time between emergence and residue. In this duration, the audible and the visible are not divided into separate sensory fields, but appear as relations that continue by altering one another’s conditions.

The two practices do not translate one another. Muggetti’s sound does not explain Lee’s sculpture, and Lee’s sculpture does not reduce Muggetti’s sound to image. What matters is not combination, but the interval between them, where each materiality becomes more distinct. What is heard remains unresolved, and what is seen never fully gives itself away. What lingers between them is not a single meaning, but a condition still left open. There, silence becomes the longest lingering note.“
