현재 엘에이에 거주하며 활동 중인 크리스토퍼 쿤은 다수의 레이어를 이용해 캔버스에 이미지를 입히고 지우는 행위를 반복한다. 이로써 작가는 캔버스 위의 이미지를 평면적인 단색에서 다채로운 색채와 자국들로 채워나간다. 이 과정에서 유화, 아크릴, 스프레이 페인트 등 여러 종류의 도구들이 채색을 위해 사용되고 방법 또한 그라데이션을 주는 방법부터 붓 자국을 남기는 등 실험적인 면모를 보여주고 있다. 이는 가장 고전적인 회화의 방식인 캔버스 위에 현대화된 기법을 사용하여 시간의 연속적인 흐름을 시각적인 기법으로 표현하기 위한 행위이다.

이번 갤러리 원포에서 개최하는 전시는 작가의 첫 국내 개인전이므로 좀 더 다양한 의미의 회화를 알리는 좋은 기회가 될것으로 예상된다.

ONE FOUR is pleased to present Formerly Known As, the solo exhibition from Christopher Kuhn. Kuhn’s works contain paintings that are made of multiple layers of solid monochrome to brush marks and gradients from different mediums. The result is a painting that references modern technology while maintaining the materials and techniques of traditional painting. Like a city where one can experience layers of history coexisting together - a modern skyscrapers standing tall among an ancient palace or temple complex - the surface of these paintings is comprised of the present and the past.
