Transparent Window, Glass Table

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming exhibition, Transparent Window, Glass Table will open from December 14, 2023, to January 20, 2024.

An earnest documentation of a lived life underpins Daniel Chen’s practice, and exploits abstraction to subvert expectations of the familiar still-life painting. The intuitive process of painting in Chen’s work is highlighted in the traces of each individual stroke of paint as he incorporates oil paint as if it were sculptural material, repeatedly stacking, trimming and overlapping it. The paint is simply functioning as paint – paint as paint, paint as object, paint as communicative, or paint as emotive.

Cai Ruei-Heng's paintings investigate the fragmentation of our world and the accompanying sense of powerlessness. His practice reorganizes and reconstructs the ruins of this disintegration to create a new visual language that mirrors the confusion and chaos of modern existence. Employing an eclectic and subversive painterly approach that combines abstraction and figuration, Cai Ruei- Heng challenges traditional concepts of stability and order. 

Seoul Kim’s painting exists as a process of the artist’s essential questions and answers towards painting. His work reveals an ongoing investigation of the position and possibility of tools and methodologies in the painting, such as brush, paint, canvas fabric, frame, and pictorial technique. He rediscovers the historical references and customs that visual art has been indebted to for a long time and sets up the arbitrary rules to rewrite them in the contemporary language.

In the paintings of Yang-ha, there is always something exploding. Explosions, often associated with violence, destruction, and upheaval, are reimagined as delicate, pastel-hued spectacles as Yang-ha depicts them with thinly applied layers of paints and pastel colors. She expresses delicate moments for these ephemeral events- hinting at clouds, comet-like debris falling and floating, and ethereal fragments suspended in the space that Yang-ha creates.
